Maddie Roberts has loved fairy tales for as long as she can remember. Handsome prince. Beautiful girl. One dramatic kiss and—boom—happily ever after. What’s not to love?

Except one thing has always bothered her: what if the girl wasn’t beautiful? It’s not like Sleeping Beauty won her prince over with her sparkling personality. She was asleep for most of the story, for crying out loud. Which leaves Maddie—firmly convinced she belongs in the ordinary-girl category—with one rather important question: Would the prince still fall in love if the girl were just… ordinary?

Enter Connor O’Neill. Gorgeous, wealthy, charming and so far from ordinary he may as well come with his own kingdom. As far as Maddie is concerned, Connor is about as close to a fairy-tale prince as real life is likely to get.

She reached that conclusion rather inconveniently the first time he walked into the coffee shop where she worked. One smile. A couple of dimples. Those eyes. And apparently her imagination decided skipping straight to wedding bells was a perfectly reasonable response. Pathetic? Possibly.

But somewhere beneath all the common sense telling her Connor was completely out of reach, Maddie had always held on to one tiny, ridiculous hope. Maybe one day he might notice her. She hadn’t counted on fate taking that as a challenge.

An unexpected promise between two old friends suddenly makes the impossible seem possible. And somehow, Connor is right in the middle of it. Which would be wonderful. If fairy tales didn’t come with fine print.
